Funny – I went to the same zoo only last week, but you seem to have captured a completely different experience to mine.
Highlight for me: driven absolutely nuts by camera weilding tourists positioning themselves for the same bloody shot smiling on cue with their mates, over and over and over, only the background changing; and school holiday parents, lecturing their brats on natural science, utterly expert on any and every subject in clear defiance of whatever the plaque beside them stated on the same subject.
I’ve taken refuge in my iPod – blaring, to drown out the drivel around me, but boring old Bach, so I’m not distracted from my own thoughts.
Shaking my head at the conformity and predictability of the human race …
And watching the chimps. Old mother chimp, cold and irritable, cradling her newborn. Older sibling playing up, being a nuisance. Mother swipes at him with a king hit he only JUST dodges, the look on her face screams “cut that out you little shit!” – and I collapse in laughter, oblivious to the surprise of the morons around me who were too engrossed in chimp-poo wars to notice what I was laughing at.
I missed the big cats. Judging by your photos, they appear to be a good deal more intelligent than most of the humans I saw that day.
